Fourteen clients to make QMJHL debut this week



(Guelph, ON) -- Fourteen clients of Maloney & Thompson will embark on their major junior careers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this weekend.


Seven of the thirteen players were selected in the recent 2020 QMJHL Draft.  First round selections LC Yoan Loshing (Moncton Wildcats), LC Markus Vidicek (Halifax Mooseheads) and RD Dyllan Gill (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) will each make their debuts this week.


Joining Loshing in Moncton will be LD Connor Olson and G Nicholas Sheehan.  Meanwhile RW Donovan Arsenault and RD Jared Cosman are set to join Gill with the Huskies.


LD Zach Biggar and LC Dylan Andrews will suit up for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.  Goaltender Matthew Dunsmoor (Rimouski Oceanic), LD Zach Welsh (Cape Breton Eagles), RD Brayden Schmitt (Blainville), RW Matteo Mann (Chicoutimi) and LC Ben Boyd (Charlottetown) will also make their QMJHL debuts.


Loshing (Ville Lemoyne, QC) was the Wildcats’ 1st round selection (13th overall) in the recent QMJHL Draft.  The 5.09, 163 lb. centreman scored 24-12-36 points with the Mississauga Senators last season.


Vidicek (Kirkland, QC) spent last year with the Lac-St. Louis Lions Midgets where he recorded 15 goals and 18 assists in 39 game.  He was selected 14th overall by the Mooseheads.


Gill (Riverview, MB) a 6.01, 170 lb. defenseman was selected 20th overall by the Huskies after a standout season with the Moncton Flyers Midgets.  He had 7-13-20 points in 39 games in 2019-20.


Andrews (Dartmouth, NS) was selected in the second round last spring by the Titans after a solid season with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack Midgets (19-17-36 in 25 games).  The 5.11, 187 lb. centreman was selected 36th overall in June.


Schmitt (Bible Hill, NS) was a 2nd round selection by the Armada after spending last season with the Weeks Major Midgets.  The 5.10, 154 lb. right shot defenseman recorded 6 goals and 20 assists in 35 games last season.


Arsenault (Richmond, PEI) joins the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies after being their 2nd round selection (29th overall) last spring.  The 6.01, 188 lb RW recorded 30 goals and 25 assists in 39 games with the Kensington Wild Midts.


Mann (Sackville, NB) was selected 40th overall by the Sagueneens and stands at 6.05, 218 lbs.   The right-shot blueliner picked up 12 points with the Moncton Flyers Midgets in ’19-20.


Dunsmoor (Guelph, ON) is a 19-year old goalie who joins the Rimouski Oceanic.  He had a standout season with the OJHL Wellington Dukes last year where he sported a 2.25 GAA and a .932 save percentage with a 24-5-2 mark..  Matthew was originally a draft pick of the OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads in 2017.


Olson (London, ON) is entering his 18-year old season with Rouyn-Noranda after spending the 19-20 season with the OJHL Pickering Panthers.  The 6.02, 192 lb. defenseman had 6 goals and 12 assists in 54 games last season.  He was selected by the OHL Erie Otters in the 1st round of the U18 Draft in 2018.


Biggar (Coleman, PEI) is a 6.00, 179 lbs. left-shooting blueliner who was the Titans’ 2nd round choice in 2019.  After spending last year with the Summerside Western Capitals, he recorded  an impressive 7 goals and 35 assists in 47 games playing his first season of junior.


Welsh (Halifax, NS) was a 2nd round pick of the Cape Breton Eagles in 2019.  The 6.00, 192 defenseman skated last year with the MHL Truro Bearcats playing 44 games.


Sheehan (Moncton, NB) joins Loshing and Olson with the Wildcats.  The 6.00, 174 lbs local product was Moncton’s 6th round choice in 2019.  He saw action in 18 games between the pipes with the Moncton Flyers Midgets last year with a sparkling 1.82 average and a 91.6 save percentage.


Boyd (Darmouth, NS) is a 6.02, 190 lbs. centreman who will be joining the Charlottetown Islanders after a strong season with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack Midgets.  The former 5th round selection in 2019 picked up 17 goals and 16 assists in 35 games last season.


Cosman (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) spent the 2019-20 campaign with the MJAHL Fredericton Red Wings Jr.A. club after being the Huskies 14th round selection in 2019.  The 5.11, 174 lbs. RD joins Gill and Arsenault in Rouyn-Noranda.
