Havelid twins lead Sweden to IIHF U18 Gold

(Landshut, Germany) -- Twin brothers, Hugo and Mattias Havelid (Linkoping, Sweden) captured the IIHF U18 World Championship on Sunday in Germany.

Sweden defeated the United States 6-4 to earn the gold medal in which goaltender Hugo was named to media All-Tournament Team Honors in net, while Mattias led the event in defenseman scoring with 12 points in 6 games.

Despite being outshot 51-15, the highly skilled and — in this case — highly opportunistic Swedes managed to beat the heavily favored U.S. to win just it's second gold medal ever at the IIHF Men’s World Under-18 Championship.

Both Hugo and Mattias are eligible for the upcoming 2022 NHL Entry Draft scheduled for Montreal in July.

Mattias (D), who is 5.10, 172 lbs., has played 29 games with the Linkoping HC Under-20 team and has 19 points to date.

Hugo (G) has played 28 games in net for the same club this year and has a sparkling 1.82 Goals Against Average and a .920 Save Percentage.
