(Seattle, WA) -- The Seattle Kraken have signed defenseman Ty Nelson (Toronto, ON) of the North Bay Battalion to an Entry Level Contract contract.
The 18-year old blueliner currently leads the OHL with 25 points in 20 games during the league playoffs. His Battalion club was eliminated in game seven of the Eastern Conference final on Monday.
Nelson was a 3rd round selection of the Kraken in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and will join their AHL affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds.
He scored 24 goals and added 52 assist for 76 points this past season and ranked third among OHL blueliners in points.
"Ty earned meaningful minutes in every situation this past season and we're happy to officially welcome him to the Kraken organization," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "He was one of the OHL's top scoring defensemen, led all league skaters in playoff points and we're looking forward to him continuing his progress with our organization."
Nelson was originally the 1st overall selection in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection out of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens program. He was the recipient of the Jack Ferguson Award for being the first overall pick.
Over two OHL seasons with the Battalion, Nelson has accumulated 33 goals and 94 assists for 127 points in 133 regular season contests. He has added 6 goals and 29 assists over 33 playoff games in two campaigns.
