(Nashville, TN) -- The Nashville Predators have have acquired defenseman Andrew Gibson (Lasalle, ON) from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for forward Jesse Kiiskinen and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Gibson, 19, was a second-round pick by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL Draft. A 6-foot-3, 196 pound, right-handed defenseman, he scored 12 goals and 32 assists in 68 games for the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He added two assists in 11 playoff games.
To acquire Gibson, Nashville sent Detroit their second-round pick - the one acquired in the Tanner Jeannot trade last season - and forward Jesse Kiiskinen, their third round pick in the 2024 draft.
Kiiskinen had four goals and six assists in 38 games for the Pelicans in Finland's top hockey league (Liiga) this season. He has yet to sign his entry level contract.
At the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Nashville, the Preds held the #43 pick right after the Red Wings traded up and selected Gibson at #42.
Under contract until 2026-27, Gibson signed his entry level contract with the Red Wings earlier this year.
Gibson played his minor hockey with the Windsor AAA Zone program before being selected in the fourth round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection by the Greyhounds.
